A yet-to-be-identified field worker has drown in a canoe that capsized in Bafarawa river, Sokoto state

A field worker has lost his life after a canoe he was traveling with capsizes in Bafarawa river, Sokoto state.
The incident was said to have occurred in the Bafarawa River, Isa local government area of the state on Friday, September 2.
According to Daily Trust, the yet-to-be-identified worker, works with the Sokoto state malaria programme.

Confirming the incident, the manager of the programme, Alhaji Aminu Umar, said four officials were travelling in the canoe when it overturned.
Umar added that one of them died while the remaining three were rescued. The officials were said to be among those conducting the ongoing seasonal malaria Chemo-Prevention Programme.
In a similar development, an unidentified solider drowned in a boat accident that occurred in Bayelsa State.
According to reports, the soldier who was attached to the Niger Delta’s Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Pulo Shield (OPS) was escorting oil workers from an oil spill site when their boat capsized at Taylor Creek near an oilfield operated by Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) in Okordia, Yenagoa local government area of the state.
Reports from eyewitness reveals the attention of the fishermen operating along the creek was drawn to the ill-fated boat, adding that the soldier had died before they could get there.
