Overview On Monkeypox Disease

monkeypox disease outbreak

Key facts

  • Monkeypox is a rare disease that occurs primarily in remote parts of Central and West Africa, near tropical rainforests.
  • The monkeypox virus can cause a fatal illness in humans and, although it is similar to human smallpox which has been eradicated, it is much milder.
  • The monkeypox virus is transmitted to people from various wild animals but has limited secondary spread through human-to-human transmission.
  • Typically, case fatality in monkeypox outbreaks has been between 1% and 10%, with most deaths occurring in younger age groups.
  • There is no treatment or vaccine available although prior smallpox vaccination was highly effective in preventing monkeypox as well.

Signs and symptoms

Symptoms begin with fever, headache, muscle pains, swollen lymph nodes, and feeling tired. This is then followed by a rash that forms blisters and scabs over. The time from exposure to onset of symptoms is around 10 days. The duration of symptoms is typically 2 to 5 weeks.

Transmission

Infection of index cases results from direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or cutaneous or mucosal lesions of infected animals. In Africa human infections have been documented through the handling of infected monkeys, Gambian giant rats and squirrels, with rodents being the major reservoir of the virus. Eating inadequately cooked meat of infected animals is a possible risk factor.
Secondary, or human-to-human, transmission can result from close contact with infected respiratory tract secretions, skin lesions of an infected person or objects recently contaminated by patient fluids or lesion materials. Transmission occurs primarily via droplet respiratory particles usually requiring prolonged face-to-face contact, which puts household members of active cases at greater risk of infection. Transmission can also occur by inoculation or via the placenta (congenital monkeypox). There is no evidence, to date, that person-to-person transmission alone can sustain monkeypox infections in the human population.

Treatment

Currently, there is no proven, safe treatment for monkeypox. The people who have been infected can be vaccinated up to 14 days after exposure.

Prevention

Reduce or do not make contact with small mammals especially monkeys.
Do not make contact with infected people.
Go for checkup if aany of the symptoms are noticed
Lastly, try to educate each other about the infection and also attend seminars or read more about the disease

Top 3 Signs of Asthma In 2017

asthma patientAsthma symptoms can be as innocent as a little trouble catching your breath to severe wheezing. You could have one sign of asthma one day and something else–or nothing–the next, and your friend with asthma might have an entirely different set of symptoms.

To make things even more confusing, many of the common symptoms of asthma mimic those of other conditions. Here’s a guide to recognizing asthma symptoms. Although only your doctor can tell you for sure (through your medical history and a physical exam), being familiar with the signs will help lead you to the right treatment.

Coughing

Coughing is a sign that your airways are inflamed, a hallmark of asthma. Inflamed airways are also sensitive airways; the increased sensitivity makes you more likely to cough in response to allergens such as pollen or irritants like perfume in an effort to ease the irritation. (When allergens trigger your asthma symptoms, you’re said to have allergic asthma.)
Coughing can also be a result of smoking or a sign of a viral infection, but it’s more likely to be asthma if it lingers for more than two weeks, keeps coming back, or is triggered by allergens like pollen. Asthma-related coughing tends to be worse at night and in the early morning.
Coughing is the only symptom of a type of asthma called cough-variant asthma (CVA). People with CVA usually need an inhaler to control their chronic cough, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.

Shortness of breath

Running out of air, along with other signs like a cough, as well as a family history of asthma or allergies, can also signal asthma. Some people say they have no problem breathing in but that breathing out can be difficult.
Of course, shortness of breath can also have many other causes: obesity, heart problems, emphysema, COPD, and more. Chances are it’s not asthma if the symptoms started after the age of 50, if you also have lightheadedness or palpitations, if asthma medications don’t help, or if you have a history of cigarette smoking.

Chest tightness

Chest tightness can also feel like pain, pressure, or squeezing. It’s caused by “constriction of the muscles around the airways,” says Dr. Rambasek.
In some cases, this tightness is a sign of a heart attack, but more commonly, it’s a sign of acid reflux, especially if the tightness happens after you eat or when you lie down. “Reflux acid in the esophagus can trigger the same types of symptoms as asthma,” says Dr. Rizzo, even if a person doesn’t experience the typical burning sensation of reflux.
Asthma and acid reflux are linked, although experts don’t entirely understand why. Each condition can make the other worse, and they frequently occur together. In fact, about 75% of asthma patients have severe acid reflux, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD.) Treating GERD often alleviates asthma symptoms.

When to see a doctor

Deciding when to contact your doctor or visit the ER for asthma symptoms varies from individual to individual. “If you’ve never been diagnosed, you might go the first time [you have symptoms],” says Dr. Rambasek. “Wheezing is not normal.”
If you are already working with a doctor, you should have an Asthma Action Plan, recommends the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of American. The plan will tell you what types of medication to take in which situations and when to call your doctor. If the instructions on the plan aren’t working, then you know to go to the emergency room.
In general, if your symptoms suddenly get worse, your medications aren’t helping, or you can’t catch your breath even when you’re resting, find medical help. “Asthma should be controllable,”

Top 4 Surprising Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil

http://www.healthline.com/hlcmsresource/images/AN_images/AN51-Coconuts-1296x728-header.jpg
Here are some of the ways you can incorporate coconut oil into your beauty routine (until we discover more!).

Body oil

As a solid, coconut oil's creamy texture makes it the perfect light moisturizer to slather all over. Apply a quarter sized amount right after you get out of the shower so it can sink into your warm skin. The light tropical scent that lingers after it's applied. Add in a few drops of peppermint or lavender oil for a massage mix.

 Lip balm

Chapped lips don't stand a chance against ultra-hydrating coconut oil. Scoop some into a spare contact lens holder and throw it in your purse so you can dab it on with your finger throughout the day.

 Under-eye cream

The skin under your eyes is thin and delicate, making it prone to fine lines, puffiness, and dark circles. If you hate the idea of dropping big bucks on expensive eye cream, then sub in coconut oil. Just rub a pinch in between fingers to warm it up before patting it underneath your eyes.

Makeup remover

Just a teaspoon (or less) can take off a day's worth of makeup with ease, no matter the staying power. Massage a dollop of warmed, liquified coconut oil straight onto skin and watch as makeup melts away, then rinse with warm water. To make your own coconut oil makeup remover wipes, melt 1 teaspoon of coconut oil per round cotton pad in a microwave-safe container. Then, lay the cotton pads in an even layer and let them soak up the oil overnight. Store them in the same container or in a plastic baggie and throw them in your carry-on or gym bag for easy makeup removal on the go.

Best Questions to Ask Yourself Before Committing to a New Relationship

relationship couples

Here are a few things relationship experts suggest you consider, to avoid committing to the wrong person.

Am I still hung up on my ex?

But if you do find yourself thinking about things you'd like to change about your romantic interest, it's probably a good idea to question why. Namely, do you wish he or she could be more like your last partner? If you’re emotionally connected to an ex (say, thinking about that person frequently, or still feeling upset about the breakup), then you’re not ready to dive into a new relationship, says Orbuch.

Is there talk of the future?

While conversations about moving in together or having babies are a bit premature at this stage, you do want someone who sees you in their future, at least in the short-term. That could mean chatting on a Monday about what you’re doing the next weekend, for example. Or buying tickets for a concert a few weeks away.

Do I accept this person exactly as is?

It's also important to consider if you’re happy with your boo, flaws and all. “We have to ask ourselves, honestly, Can I live with this person as they are today?” says Appleman. If so, that’s a positive sign for relationship success.

Am I truly ready for this?

Say your love interest’s actions and words broadcast that he or she is 100% onboard for a commitment. You should still take a moment to double-check with yourself. “Are you ready to trust this person with parts of you that are confidential, sensitive, and intimate?” asks Orbuch.

“Many times the idea of being single results in the belief that ‘I am ready for a relationship,’” says Appleman. “Instead of making a conscious decision about whether or not it’s best to be single.”

South African DJ Beats Up His Wife With Spanner

A well known South African DJ, Komza Nhleko has reportedly been arrested and charged to court after violently assaulting his wife with a spanner.

A well known South African DJ, Komza Nhleko has reportedly been arrested and charged to court after violently assaulting his wife with a spanner.

Inflicting shocking eye injuries and confining the woman to a hospital – a video clip of the said assault was shared by the victim’s friend Thandeka Ndex Ndolvu, who said that the DJ assaulted the victim for a long time in front of bouncers who simply stood by and watched the violence go on.

“First we were attacked at Slotjile in front of five to six bouncers then followed all the way to the garage. My friend has been assaulted for the longest of time and has kept quiet because she thought that things wud change or get better but this is what it got too…. She is now lying in a hospital bed,” Ndlovu said.

The issue, has of course, stirred major outrage and really is quite disturbing too – worse is that it emerged at a time when there have been staggering reports of South African men murdering or assaulting their women.

Reacting to the story, the South Africa Minister Police Minister, Fikile Mbalula, called the DJ a dog and announced that he had been arrested and arraigned before a court.

Zimbabwe Set To Ban Sales Of Alcohol During Weekdays.

zimbabwean ban alcohol sales

The Zimbabwean government is set to enact a law barring the sale of alcohol from Monday to Friday, and to expectant women in order to curb the abuse of the beverage.

The new law will particularly target motor vehicle drivers, who will face arrest if found driving with blood alcohol concentration levels going beyond 0,08 per 100ml, The Zimbabwe Mail reports.

Former Zimbabwe health minister Timothy Stamps, now serving as health adviser in the office of the president is credited to be the sponsor of the new National Alcohol Policy.
According to another Zimbabwean newspaper, Sunday Mail, retailers found selling the drink to expectant women will also be prosecuted.

The policy recommends that alcohol advertisements should be done at least 100 metres away from a road intersection, school, clinic, hospital, church and old people’s homes.
“Policies are there to give guidance to the general populace and various stakeholders. The reduction of alcohol abuse can be done partly through the law but the rest will be through moral suasion,” the newspapers quoted Stamps as saying.
Critics of the proposed regulations have however taken issue with its impact on profitability for retailers. They say it would force many of them out of business in a country where unemployment is a big problem.

Mr Eazi Insists He Brought Ghana Sounds Into Nigerian Music

Nigerian singer, Oluwatosin Ajibade, aka Mr Eazi has been in the news lately over some statements he has been making.
mr eazi
Despite being lambasted for claiming that the introduction of Ghanaian sounds and slangs into Nigerian music was started by him, Mr Eazi insists he brought Ghana sounds to Nigerian music.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, the ‘leg over’ crooner said;

“The interview that caused this uproar was just me speaking my mind and saying things the way I see it from my perspective. It wasn’t meant to be an insult to any Nigerian artiste. You cannot deny that I brought a new vibe to the industry and I believe everybody can see that. Now, there are lots of Nigerian artistes who use Ghanaian words and melodies in their songs, but they’ve never been to Ghana. So how did they get to know about those words? There are a lot more songs out now that have that Ghanaian influence, and with all due respect, I can boldly say that started after my songs started gaining popularity.”

Speaking on the $6,000 job he allegedly turned down for music, Mr Eazi said:

“I turned down the job; I didn’t say I had started working there. I don’t think there is anything wrong with being an intern. I don’t have anything to gain by lying about such a thing.

The truth remains that I was offered a job by Schlumberger, but I decided not to take it, but rather concentrated on my career. And that is a decision I’ve never regretted till date.”
